Intern

General Description:
This position is available for an environmentally oriented
enthusiast to assist in open-air natural history and environmental
education. This individual would be under the supervision
of the Director at the Ocean View Foundation on Block
Island. The job will require approximately 20-25 hours
a week and would entail helping with the setting up and
conducting of a variety of environmental education programs
on Block Island, for families and participants of all
ages several times a week.
In addition the position includes maintenance and stewardship
responsibility for the Ocean View Pavilion and its grounds.
The building is in a park-like site in the commercial
center of the Island that is open to the public from dawn
to dusk, and requires daily attention during the summer
season.
Partial Description
of Responsibilities:

Assisting with the logistics of presenting 4 to
5 weekly programs. |

Assist in developing special (non-weekly) programs:
Walk Around the Island, night sky viewing, special
historic and natural history presentations, and
etc. |

4 to 5 early morning checks, cleaning and light
maintenance at the Pavilion per week. |
 |
Maintaining and recording data. |
 |
Weekly distribution of brochures, posting of schedules,
maintaining information kiosk, etc. |
 |
Other cool stuff. |
Compensation:
 |
Housing and a stipend of $450 per month. |
 |
Transportation is recommended. |
Qualifications:
 |
We are seeking a college student who is interested
in obtaining first hand experience in areas of environmental
education, natural history sciences, community and
public service, and related endeavors. |
 |
An ease and relish for working with people, and
a robust zest for the miracles of nature is necessary. |
 |
Although preference may be given to those described
above, this position may also be right for a person
who is decompressing from teaching or studying in
an intense academic program. |
